“Juji…are you listening to the story?…or are you watching the butterfly?” A lot of people ask me what tools I use to create my images. Obviously, I use Photoshop, but believe it or not, Photoshop isn’t my main tool. My number one tool… is sunlight. Sunlight is, as a daytime photographer, my bread and butter. My main goal as a photographer and editor is to capture moments that are indeed fantastical, but to keep them as realistic as possible so that when you view them, your mind actually questions whether or not the image is real without bringing the editing issue into your mind. This photo, for instance, was created over a period of two weeks. I captured the background image weeks ago at 7:00 am, but since Juji wasn’t with me I was forced to wait almost two whole weeks before the lighting was exactly the same and I could take our photos. Then it’s just a matter of masking us into the background.
